Under the eaves

I dreamt I saw you in a dream
Across a room
Where people
Slept in half-moonlight
You looked at me with sadness
Expectancy
And anger
You beckoned.
As I did too.
You sat beside me
Paused
And said:
I found a poem you wrote
For me
A long long time ago
In another dream –
Then you were gone.
Today I walked
As in a dream
And the rain reminded me
Of when we walked
Together
Caught in another time
At every corner
I saw your face
I looked for you
Where you once were
But your seat was empty
So I turned my steps
I stood
Like a shadow
Under the eaves
That dripped with rain.
